locked out of a room with many doors

This is interesting. Sony has fired the first shot in their war on PSP homebrew lovers - while they’re not forcing you to upgrade to 2.00 firmware (thus plugging the hole in 1.50 firmware that allows you to run your own software, including - unfortunately - tools to pirate games), they have recently announced signups for the eagerly-awaited SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo beta. But you can only access the signup form if you use the PSP web browser. Which is only included in firmware 2.00.

Or you know, you could just switch your Firefox useragent string

snake eat apple, snake grow big

Another patented It Worked on IRC, It Can Work Here Too post.

Amy just got a new phone, and by “new” I mean it would have been cutting-edge 10 years ago, but that’s the price you pay for having shitty credit and living in an area with almost no coverage.

Anyway, she said it had games on it, and I mocked her, so she started up Snake, but then quit because, and I quote, “It’s too complicated”.

Bear in mind, this is the woman who was playing Civilization III last night. So managing vast empires, that’s fine, but making a snake eat an apple? Not gonna happen.

help the homeless

GamerDad being down makes me a sad panda.

But it will be back!

this time around, the revolution will not be streamed from the internet

I watched REVOLUTION OS last night, on FSTV. (Yeah, fight the power!)

While a little cringeworthy (Eric Raymond’s telling of his “I’m your worst nightmare” comment to a Microsoft exec stands out), it did a fairly good job of painting a picture of the Open Source and Free Software movements, although it seemed a little biased towards the Open Source guys. Richard Stallman came off as looking a little bit pathetic, especially the scene at the conference where he’s up on the podium trying to tell everyone they’re running GNU systems, not Linux systems, and Linus Torvalds brings out his kids. Calculated move? Mmmmm. Even if it wasn’t, it was rude - no matter how many times Linus has heard Stallman’s speech, you’d think he’d have at least pretended to be listening.

dance ’til you can’t dance no mo’

It’s been 10 years, and I’m dancing babies to sleep again. m-flo was particularly successful just now. Last night she dozed off while I was playing Amplitude, although I was slightly concerned I’d put her in a catatonic state from all the flashing lights.. Oops.

banned from the ranch - again

*sigh*

Banned again. I’m not going to try anymore. I don’t think it was my stupid fault this time either, so I’m slightly annoyed. Then again, it was my stupid fault in the first place, sooo..

I think either the softmod dual boot switcher screwed up (something certainly did, because I got an error 21 at boot out of nowhere, honest!), or my account was already flagged after being banned twice before and they looked at the new BIOS and old HD serial.

So unless some money falls into my lap this November and I can get an Xbox360 (why sure! I certainly do have FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS to spend on a new console!), I’m out of Live for a while..

Fullmetal Alchemist

I finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist the other night. What a brilliant series! I admit, I felt a little let down by the ending of the anime, but I know it’s also left open for the future (such as the recently-released movie).

It’s one of the few shows that managed to get to me emotionally. Of course, most of my anime is watched these days at 1am when I’m falling asleep and easily susceptible, but still, it’s a wonderful show.

live and kicking

Fingers crossed, but I might be back on Live again. (Gamertag: SiW). Maybe I can stay unbanned for longer than 24 hours this time. Yet again I have to start unlocking everything for Burnout 3 and Dead or Alive: Ultimate though.

Speaking of which, I continue to be the worst DoA player of all time when I’m playing online. It’s stage fright or something.

high society

Last night I played NARC, the remake of the old arcade game. It had been promoted with the tagline “Use drugs to gain an edge”, and I have to say that you really would need to use drugs to enjoy playing this. It’s just crap. The real shame is that there’s a rather good soundtrack behind all this, including Curtis Mayfield’s Pusherman (duh).

be seeing you

Speaking of The Prisoner, Amy and I finished up watching the series, after several days of aborted attempts to watch Fall Out. This will have been my 3rd viewing of the whole series I think, and Fall Out still allows you to make all sorts of wacky conspiracy theories about meanings.

On the whole, the show stands the test of time. It’s also amazing how much of it has slipped into popular culture, people who don’t know the show will recognize “that one spy show with the white ball thing”.
