We went to see School of Rock this evening. It’s a bit of a drive to see a movie when it’s not playing locally, which is a real pain for Amy, but I think it was worth it. A very funny, simple movie with absolutely zero surprises but it was well executed. Damn those kids are good. I get jealous whenever I see a child musician, but then again they probably can’t program. What’s really depressing is that they probably can. Sam seemed to be infused with the POWER OF ROCK from the movie, maybe he’ll become famous and I can live vicariously through him.
This prompted a discussion on the way home on whether I like rock or not. While I mainly listen to dance/electronic music, I’ve always maintained that I like really good rock songs, it’s just that what gets called rock and what I think is really rock are quite different. I like anything that has passion in it really, or sometimes just anything that’s really LOUD or ANGRY or just FUN. So there’s plenty classic rock that fits the bill. I just don’t like songs. I love music, I just blank out lyrics.
