Hoorah for Shoreline Firewall, much easier to understand than setting up iptables manually. Security is useless if you don’t understand how to use it.

I saw a few minutes of the VMAs last night. Nothing makes me feel less out of touch with the world’s youth than crap like that, and I’m thankful for it.

I know, I know.. I’ve been busy. I’ve finally dumped my Windows server and moved to a Linux server.. that’ll be fun setting up.

(I mean on my LAN.. this site is still served by IIS)

w00t! I put a bit of effort into recoding tunage for Winamp3 now that it’s final, so the “current tunage” thing above works again. I’ll clean up tunage soon and make it available for all.

Quick tip for XP users who want to turn off the request for an error report whenever a program crashes:

“Open System in the Control Panel (or right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties.
Choose the Advanced tab, and click Error Reporting.
You can disable error reporting entirely here, or enable it selectively for certain programs. Click Ok when you’re done.”

The news that Microsoft has removed the TrueType core fonts is rather worrying. Sure, it doesn’t hurt Windows or Mac users, but it hits the Linux brigade.

It’s a smart move by MS really - the Georgia, Verdana, and Trebuchet fonts are excellent for web pages, and you see them on many, many websites. Now they can tell the PHBs that they shouldn’t be running Linux in their offices because “webpages don’t look right”.
